We are not 0 to 1 Investors
We have always preferred cash-flow generating businesses with a track record of profitability.
We identified that we are best at scaling an established business with mature cashflows vs. a company in its infancy looking for hyper growth.
We only look at 0 to 1 opportunities when asymmetric outcomes are highly achievable (such as Boundaries North).
We are Operator-First Investors
Investors are often good at financial concepts but lack operational know-how. Our experience of operating businesses across a variety of sectors gives us a competitive advantage when talking to founders about strategies to grow and partner together. We have come to appreciate that spreadsheets in a silo often are not reflective of the true value creation levers in a business.
Operating Partner Led Models
We believe in putting aces in their places – we try to recruit, motivate, and engage subject matter experts to join us to steward our portfolio companies by bringing in an FPC-appointed partner on our investments, we aim to mitigate key-person risk often found in founder-led businesses while enhancing our integration timelines and institutional knowledge build.
Investment Criteria
Target Size
We seek to partner with businesses that have a track record of consistently delivering annual EBITDA (or pre-tax cash flows) of $2 – $10 million.
Industry-Agnostic
We are industry agnostic investors that seek to partner with talented founders and owners of enduringly profitable businesses.
Geographic Focus
Canada and select opportunities in the U.S.
Strategic Capital
Growth capital or transition capital (e.g., founder retirement, management buyout).
Transaction Structure
Highly flexible majority ownership structures. We strive to create win-win partnerships.
